What is your opinion about this? "Don't get too attached: Twitter 'rival' Mastodon will go extinct" http://mashable.com/2017/04/05/mastodon-wont-survive/?utm_cid=mash-com-Tw-main-link#jQ9xh4ZglaqF
@moru0011 I completely agree with you !
@Bertrand These are things to consider if Mastodon wants to survive and shine. The Internet is not the same it was in the 90's.
@Bertrand @Darkprism for sure things to consider, particularly the federated/global view needs to be more robust as does cross instance follows as a means to reduce the bubbling of each instance, but half the article felt like it was reaching for gripes just so it could be long enough to justify a listicle.
@droxpopuli @Darkprism thanks for your opinions. I shall make a note of it !
@Bertrand I think this quote pretty well captures the guy's comprehension:
"Mastodon is so popular right now that it can't support all the potential users on one platform, so there are dozens of them"
@copiesofcopies I missed this one.
@Bertrand To be honest I think it is spot on.
@Bertrand There are some solid criticisms there. But Twitter's troubles are finance troubles. This medium here, the overhead is sooooo negligible. There will be the niche early adapter people. Then devs will fill in some gaps in functionality, and we'll really have something here.
Plus: Maybe the different instances will give it a techie, tribal feel that a layman (like me) can feel excited about. "Look, me figure out technical thing. Me belong to mastadon cloud tribe."
@Bertrand unfortunately probably true
@Bertrand I am ignoring it. It will succeed if for no other reason than people are fed up with restrictions and being marketed to. Like DirecTV and Dish...DirecTV has far more customers but Dish is successful as well....
@Bertrand mostly invalid complaints, the federation thingy might get problematic, but also can be advantegous. At least reddit also is kinda segmented. However there should be automatic account replication among instances ..
