We joke a lot about #brands, but I've notice that lately, even in the press, "brand" has been used where "company" would have once been.
Maybe it's late and I'm tired, but this reminds of how Facebook de-emphasized the ways you could personalize your page (the open ended "about me" field) in place of Likes. Your "identity" was reduced to a basically set of media.
