Taking nutrition tips from people who've never been fat is like hiring a bodyguard who's never been in a fight

The first time I read "boost" my brain interpreted it in the sense of "car theft"

@red I wish it were a per-instance setting. I understand that some users have concerns, but would prefer to be on an instance that was full-text-searchable.

What's the consensus on search being restricted to usernames and hashtags? Is this something that's necessary to reduce harassment? Without a broader text search finding people with common interests is difficult and tedious

HBO is so much better than Netflix at producing comedy specials. Tig Notaro's Boyish Girl Interrupted and Pete Holmes Faces and Sounds are better than anything Netflix has put out on in the past year.

Pete Holmes' "Faces & Sounds" is a great, silly comedy special. Check it OUT

my last words will be "please watch jerrod carmichael's special on HBO" and if they aren't then my time on this earth was wasted

About to join on freenode these federated servers got me feeling so nostalgic

I guess people interested in a new social media app that's more consistent with privacy and safety has zero intersection with the group of people who want to talk about Tony Romo

So when I blow this instance for something with a less insane URL is their anyway to delete the previous one?

It's the remix to Twitter, all those devs they be bitter, users rollin in content but ain't no ads up in hither. Gimme that toot toot. Don't gimme that tweet tweet

Hm, I think the solution might be to create my own instance on my own domain.

How do you convey your username/instance verbally and succinctly? For example at the end of a podcast to tell people where to find you? Any shorteners built in?

the great thing about open source is that instead of screaming into the void and then receiving bad features you never asked for, everything is broken but you shrug it off because no one has any money anyways

Honestly I still don't know (or really care) what the difference is in local or federated feeds nor am I that curious about privacy settings or open source whatever I just like it here because "toot!" is better than "tweet" and it makes me smile like a simple child

Haven't felt this way about a social network since Orkut
